I sometimes think back and wonder, would I do all that again? Sending letters, asking for autographs, getting phone numbers and ringing them? Probably not. There are things you only do when you’re young and don’t think about much but as time goes by you learn that certain things (like pestering elderly primadonnas) are inappropriate. But then Tebaldi always seemed happy when I was ringing… She’d say “Matteo, carino, come stai? – best wishes to you, too, mille grazie, ciao…!”
